Dhenkanal: Members of the Kamakhyanagar Bar Association are observing a 12-hour bandh in the town accusing the police of inaction in a case of an attack on some lawyers. All government and private offices, educational institutions, and business establishments have been closed in view of the bandh.
Reportedly on the night of September 28, two lawyers and two court staff had gone to a hotel at Baligorada to have some food. There, six to seven youths attacked them over a trivial matter. As a result, all four of them fell unconscious. They were rescued by police and admitted to Kamakhyanagar hospital.
Later, senior lawyer Shasadhar Mohanty was shifted to Cuttack, while the other three were treated there. Although 15 days have passed, the police have arrested only one person while the rest of the miscreants are moving freely.
As the police are not taking action, the Bar Association called for a 12-hour bandh. Many other organisations including the Private Bus Owners Association, Taxi Association, Journalists Association, and Senior Citizen Forum are supporting the bandh.
