Malkangiri: A 12-hour bandh called by the Hindu Jagarana Macha in Malkangiri district today affected traffic, businesses, and educational institutions.
As per the report, the bandh was called to protest against atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh and demand the eviction of Bangladeshi residing in the district. The bandh, which began at 6 am, saw shops, markets, schools, and colleges remaining closed. Vehicles also stayed off the roads, causing inconvenience to commuters. The protest will continue till 6 pm today.
The bandh has affected normal life in Malkangiri, with many people facing difficulties due to the closure of shops and transportation services. The administration has taken necessary precautions to maintain law and order in the district.
However, ambulance and emergency services remained unaffected due to the bandh.
“We are outraged by the recent desecration of idols of Lord Jagannath and His sibling deities in Bangladesh, which were set ablaze just a few days ago. This heinous act is unacceptable and demands action. We urge the government to take immediate action against Bangladeshi nationals living in our district without proper identification documents. They should be arrested and deported promptly to prevent the kind of violence we’ve seen in Bangladesh from happening here”, said a protester.
