Cuttack: Acting on credible intelligence regarding illegal gambling activities, police conducted a successful raid at Hotel Mahaveer Galaxy on B.K. Road under Mangalabag Police Station limits in Cuttack on Wednesday night.
Thirteen professional gamblers were caught red-handed while playing cards with money stakes in Room No. 110.A police team led by Ananya Awasthi, ACP Zone-III, Cuttack UPD, along with Arun Kumar Swain, ACP Zone-I, Cuttack, U.K. Sahu, IIC, Mangalabag and other staff carried out the operation.
A case has been registered at Mangalabag Police station.The thirteen accused persons apprehended are: Hemanta Kahali (44), Chintu Dalai (30), Tapan Sethi (46), Ajit Ojha (35), Shyam Sundar Sahu (39), Krishna Rao (48), Santosh Kumar (32), Rama Chandra Behera (50), Manoj Kumar Mohanty (35), Ranganath Sahoo (61), Maheswar Santa (40), Jogeswar Rao (49), Jagabandhu Behera (36).
During the raid, police seized cash amounting to Rs. 18,30,730/- of different denominations, 60 plastic round tokens, 10 vehicle keys, 14 mobile phones of different brands, four bundles of playing cards, and eight vehicles including two cars from the spot.
All 13 accused were arrested and forwarded to Court. Investigation of the case is in progress.
