Paradip: A giant python appeared in the Paradip township area triggering panic among the local residents.
PPL authorities said that the reptile, over 15 foot long was spotted for the first time in the town. The security guard first spotted the massive snake crossing the road near D Type Block in the township.
It moved slowly into the bushy area in search of prey as migratory birds flock to Paradip during winter.
The reptile has not hurt anyone in the locality. After noticing the giant reptile, the security guard alerted others who rushed to the spot with torch lights and identified it as a python.
PPL officials immediately informed the Kujanga forest officials and requested them to locate the snake and rescue it.
Local residents said they have never seen such a huge snake in the area.
The forest officials also launched a search operation to locate reptile. They have kept a close watch on its movement.
The Indian Rock Python (Python molurus) is a large nonvenomous reptile found basically in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It is now threatened by habitat loss due to massive deforestation and poaching.
