Bhubaneswar: A group of 15 tourists, who were on a trip to Mahendragiri in Gajapati district, were stranded due to heavy rainfall caused by a low-pressure system. The tourists, all from Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, were rescued by forest officials with the help of local authorities and police.
According to reports, the tourists had visited Mahendragiri, a popular tourist destination in Gajapati district, during the Dussehra holidays. However, due to the heavy rainfall and landslide, they were stuck in the area. The rescue operation was carried out successfully, and the tourists were safely evacuated.
Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed the Minister of Mines and Steel, Bibhuti Jena, to visit Gajapati and oversee the relief efforts. The Chief Minister has also instructed the Special Relief Commissioner to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the heavy rainfall.
It is pertinent to mention that the heavy rainfall triggered by low-pressure has caused disruptions in several parts of the district, with landslides and flooding reported in some areas in South Odisha.
