Bhubaneswar: The Excise Department on Saturday late night conducted raids on 150 bars, pubs, clubs, and beer parlours across Bhubaneswar. During one of the inspections in the Chandrasekharpur area, an excise officer was allegedly assaulted by a group of individuals resisting the raid.
Following the incident, police detained two persons in connection with the attack. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend others involved.
According to reports, the raids were prompted by reports that several establishments were operating beyond permitted hours and violating licensing and safety norms. Teams from the Excise Department conducted simultaneous inspections across the city to enforce compliance
During the Chandrasekharpur bar inspection a group of individuals allegedly obstructed the officers and attacked the excise personnel despite them being in uniform. The situation escalated into a physical confrontation before reinforcements arrived.
A complaint has been lodged at the Chandrasekharpur police station and the detained individuals remain in custody.
