Bhubaneswar: Intense heatwave continues to singe Odisha as at least 16 places in the state recorded temperatures above 32°C as early as 8.30 am on Friday. While Bhawanipatna was the hottest place in the state this morning at 36.2°C, Keonjhar, Talcher, and Baripada were close behind recording 35°C at around 8.30 am.
The day temperatures in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were 33.6°C and 33.2°C respectively at 8.30 am today.
The temperatures recorded by the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here are as below:
- Bhawanipata: 36.2°C
- Keonjhar: 35.6°C
- Talcher: 35°C
- Baripada: 35°C
- Angul: 35°C
- Bhubaneswar: 33.6°C
- Balasore: 33.6°C
- Cuttack: 33.2°C
- Sambalpur: 33.2°C
- Hirakud: 33°C
- Titlagarh: 33°C
- Boudh: 33°C
- Jagatsinghpur: 33°C
- Chandbali: 32.8°C
- Rourkela: 32.8°C
- Jharsuguda: 32.6°C
Meanwhile, the IMD issued a red alert for several Odisha districts on Friday and Saturday and warned that the heat wave would intensify further with the mercury breaching 45°C.
Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Balasore Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar Balangir, Nuapada, Kahahandi.
