Jajpur: Jajpur Chief District Medical and Public Health Officer Dr. Bijay Kumar Mishra on Wednesday confirmed that 16 cholera-positive cases have been detected in the district.
“A total of 49 stool samples were collected. Of the 37 tested so far, 16 have returned positive for cholera. Additionally, 22 water samples were taken, of which 17 have been tested. While Vibrio cholerae was not detected in the water samples, it was found in the stool samples,” said Dr. Mishra while speaking to reporters.
He urged residents to adopt strict hygiene practices to prevent further spread of the disease.
“People must drink only boiled water, wash hands thoroughly before meals, maintain cleanliness in and around their homes, avoid consuming food from outside sources, and always use proper sanitation facilities,” he said.
Dr Mishra assured that the situation in the district is currently stable but warned of increased risks during the monsoon season.
“With the onset of the rains, there is a potential for a rise in acute diarrhoeal diseases. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and adhere to the health advisories being issued.”
Ongoing awareness efforts include the ‘Stop-Diarrhoea’ campaign, mobile announcements, and door-to-door visits by health workers. These teams are monitoring residents’ health conditions and providing guidance on preventive measures.
As of now, 196 diarrhoea patients are receiving treatment at the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), with 78 new admissions reported in the past 24 hours, Dr Mishra confirmed.
