Bhubaneswar: A total of 2,57,956 farmers have registered online in the Rabi season for selling their paddy.
There has been an 11 per cent increase in the number of farmers who have registered their names for selling paddy in the Rabi season in 2022 as compared to 2021.
In 2021, a total of 2.33 lakh farmers had registered their names for selling paddy in the Rabi season.
A final list of farmers will be drawn after scrutiny of land records, bank accounts, actual land under paddy cultivation, area of irrigated land, etc provided by the registered farmers.
“Keeping in view the success of a pilot project for verifying land under paddy cultivation in Kharif season 2021-2022 using satellite imagery, the same will be used for verifying land under paddy cultivation during Rabi season in the 17 districts,” informed Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare, Cooperation Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain.
In the event of wrong information, the concerned piece of land is excluded, Swain added.
The Minister said that only farmers whose names have been registered and verified can sell their Rabi paddy in the mandis.
All measures have been taken by the department to make paddy procurement transparent as well as make it easy and smooth for farmers to sell their paddy, the Minister added.
Swain has directed Field Officers for immediate resolution of the issue if any farmer faces a problem in selling paddy.
Paddy procurement for the Rabi season at Minimum Support Price (MSP) will be carried out in the districts of Balasore, Bargarh, Bolangir, Boudh, Cuttack, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Khordha, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Puri, Rayagada, Sambalpur, and Subarnapur.
In these 17 districts, paddy will be procured from registered and verified farmers only against the issue of P-Pass and advance tokens.
Paddy procurement for the Rabi season will continue till June 30.
Out of the 2,57,956 farmers who have registered for selling Rabi season paddy, 91,005 are new registrants and 1,66,951 have renewed their registrations.
