Dhenkanal: A farmhouse owner was shot dead by unknown miscreants at Phasigaan under Sadar police station in Dhenkanal district on Saturday night.
The incident occurred around 3-4 AM when miscreants barged into the farmhouse and opened fire at Gobinda Naik while he slept, before fleeing the scene.
Naik’s elder brother, who was also inside the farmhouse, rushed to the spot after hearing the gunfire and found Naik lying in a pool of blood. The deceased’s wife stated, “He slept in the farmhouse last night. My elder brother-in-law called us over the phone at around 4 AM, saying he was serious. When my son and I rushed to the scene, we found him lying unconscious.”
The deceased’s younger brother added that Gobinda Naik slept at the farmhouse every night. “Our elder brother, who was also inside the farmhouse, called us over the phone, and we rushed to the spot. We called an ambulance, but it was unavailable, so we took him to Dhenkanal district headquarters hospital in a private vehicle. Unfortunately, doctors declared him brought dead.”
The exact reason behind the crime remains unclear. Dhenkanal Sadar police reached the spot in the morning and launched an investigation into the incident.
