Bhubaneswar: Two persons were arrested for burglary after stealing approximately 0.5 kg of silver from a jewelry shop at CRP Square in the capital city on the midnight of Sunday.
The accused have been identified as Santosh Kumar Pradhan and Rakesh Mukhi, both of whom were caught under suspicious circumstances.
The breakthrough came when Police Control Room (PCR) van, part of a newly enhanced patrol system, intercepted two persons acting suspiciously near Nayapalli.
“To strengthen the PCR system, we have been focusing on verifying persons who move around the city late at night or drive vehicles without number plates. During this operation, we detained two suspects and found around 0.5 kg of silver in their possession. Upon further interrogation, they confessed to having looted the jewelry shop in CRP Square,” said Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena while addressing a press conference on Sunday.
In addition to the stolen silver found on the accused, further investigation led to the recovery of an additional 1 kg of silver from a separate location.
A case has been registered at the Nayapalli Police Station under case number 122 in the burglary section.
DCP Meena also praised Sub-Inspector Subha Prakash Mohanty for his role in the successful patrolling and subsequent arrests.
Both suspects are reported to have criminal records and the investigation is ongoing.
