Koraput: In a tragic incident, two persons were killed in a landslide while they had taken shelter inside a cave near the banks of Saveri river in Malipadar forest in Gupteswar panchayat under Baipariguda police limits in Koraput district.
The deceased have been identified as Selum Dharua (50) and Samaru Dharua (45) of Haldiund village. They belonged to the Dharua tribe, who eke out a living by collecting and selling forest produce.
According to reports, like any other day, Selum and Samaru had gone to the Malipadar forest on Tuesday to gather forest produce. As it rained heavily, they took shelter inside a cave near the bank of river Saveri in the Malipadar forest.
However, on Wednesday, some villagers of Malipadar had gone to catch fish in the Saveri river.
Lo and behold, the villagers saw the bodies of Selum and Samaru trapped under the debris of rocks and soil caused by a landslide.
They informed the police and the families of the deceased persons about the tragic incident.
Today Baipariguda police have seized the bodies and sent those for post-mortem.
