Hacked To Death In Mayurbhanj

Rairangpur (Mayurbhanj): Two persons were allegedly hacked to death in Kulughutu village under the Tiring police station limits in Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday morning. The accused, reportedly in an inebriated condition, has been taken into custody by police.

The deceased have been identified as Gopinath Sardar and Budheswar Rana, residents of the same village. The accused, identified as Mochka Alda, allegedly launched a sudden attack on the duo using an iron rod (sabal), leaving them dead on the spot.

According to reports, the incident took place between 8:30 am and 9:00 am, when the accused was standing in front of his house in an intoxicated state. As the two victims were passing by, he allegedly attacked them without provocation, leading to their immediate death.

Following the incident, panic spread in the village as locals rushed to the spot and overpowered the accused. Villagers tied him up and allegedly assaulted him before informing the police.

On being informed, Tiring police station personnel reached the village soon after and rescued the accused from the mob, taking him into custody. He was initially shifted to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Rairangpur for medical attention before being placed under arrest.

The attack appears to have been carried out under the influence of alcohol, and no prior enmity between the accused and the victims has been established so far. However, the exact motive is yet to be ascertained.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. The incident has triggered tension and panic in the locality.
