2 Persons Died After Falling Into Open Drains In BMC Area In Last 7 Years

Bhubaneswar: Two people have lost their lives after falling into open drains within Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) limits over the last seven years, informed Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra in the Odisha Assembly on Tuesday.

In a written reply to a query from Congress MLA from Jeypore Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Mahapatra stated that there are 1,907.7 km of drains under BMC limits.

Sharing details about the drains in the BMC area, the Minister said that 68.3 km of the main drain under BMC’s purview is uncovered, while 27 km of the 1,380 km of internal drains are uncovered.

Similarly, in the BMC area, 360 km of internal drains under the purview of PWD, 65 km of internal drains under IDCO, and 34.5 km of internal drains under NHAI are covered, he added.

He further informed that work on 27 km of internal drains under BMC’s purview will be completed by the end of December this financial year.
