20 Fishermen Along With 2 Trawlers Detained For Fishing In Restricted Zone Near Astarang

Bhubaneswar: The forest department has detained 20 fishermen along with two trawlers while they were fishing in the prohibited zone in the sea off Astarang coast in Puri district.

The trawlers have been brought to Nuagarh Jetty by the Indian Coast Guards and Forest Department personnel after a joint raid. As many as 20 fishermen have been detained from the two trawlers. A case has been filed against them under Odisha Marine Fisheries Act.

The seized trawlers have been named as Chinmayee of Balasore and Maa Brundabati of Paradip.

Fishing by motorized boats within 10 km of Devi river mouth from the coast has been restricted for safe arrival and breeding of Olive Ridley turtles on the coast.
