Nayagarh: Acting on the initiative of Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, Nayagarh police seized over 20 trucks illegally transporting sand near Barakoli Chhak in the Khandapada area of the district.

According to reports, while returning from the Pushyabhishek event of Lord Neelamadhava at Kantilo, Jena noticed several trucks loaded with sand near Barakoli Chhak. Smelling foul play, the minister directed the authorities to intercept the trucks and inspect the papers.

During inspection, it was found that none of the vehicles had valid permits for transporting sand. They were transporting sand illegally from the Mahanadi riverbank.

Police seized the trucks and handed over to the concerned authorities on the instruction of the minister.

Khandapada MLA Dusmanta Kumar Swain and local Tehsildar Biswabisruta Tripathy were present during the inspection.
