Jayapur: The Additional District and Special POCSO Court in on Thursday sentenced a Kalahandi man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a minor girl in 2021.
The court of Judge Sanghamitra Dash convicted Sushant Bagh alias Susanta Bagh of Ampani village under Koksara block in Kalahandi district.
The case relates to an incident that took place on 17.11.2021 under Kakirigumma Police Station limits. After hearing arguments, the court found the accused guilty under Sections 366, 376(2)(n) of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act and awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000.In addition, the District Legal Services Authority has been directed to pay Rs 4,00,000 as compensation to the victim.
Special Public Prosecutor P. Sanyasi Rao represented the government in the case. Court sources said the verdict was delivered after examining witnesses and evidence produced during the trial.
