Nuapada: In a major crackdown, Jonk police on Monday raided a gambling den operating in a forest near Jhalbahal village and arrested 22 persons.
According to reports, police seized cash worth Rs 3.56 lakh, 20 mobile phones, and six bikes during the raid. The raid was conducted based on reliable intelligence inputs. Khariar Road town has long been known as a gambling hub, with several such cases reported earlier.
According to police, gamblers from Nuapada district, neighbouring districts, and Chhattisgarh had gathered in the forest area to place bets. Many of those arrested are from Khariar Road and Chhattisgarh.
Nuapada SP Amritpal Singh confirmed the arrests at a press meet. A case has been registered and further investigation is on to identify others involved in the racket.
