Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to enhance road safety and deter habitual traffic violators, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate has initiated a strict crackdown, targeting vehicle owners who consistently flout rules and ignore penalties.
Authorities have announced that the first phase of this drive has identified 258 such persistent offenders.
Following this, the Commissionerate Police formally requested the State Transport Authority (STA) in Cuttack to cancel the Registration Certificates (RCs) and Fitness Certificates of the identified vehicles.
Responding to the police request, the State Transport Authority has issued direct instructions to all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) across the state. The directives mandate the RTOs to blacklist the flagged vehicles and initiate the process for the cancellation of their RCs and Fitness Certificates, particularly in cases involving repeated traffic violations.
This coordinated action between the Police and the Transport Department marks a sharp escalation in enforcement strategy. Previously, violators could accumulate fines, but the new measures target the very legality of the vehicle’s operation, effectively taking it off the road.
“The strict enforcement action will follow to ensure compliance with road safety regulations and deter habitual offenders,” stated the press note from the Police Commissionerate.
The initiative sends a clear warning to vehicle owners that non-payment of fines and repeated disregard for traffic laws will no longer be tolerated. The administration aims to instill a greater sense of responsibility among drivers and ensure safer roads for all citizens in the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack region and beyond.
