Bhubaneswar: As many as 25,934 persons were killed and 51,873 persons were injured in road accidents in the last five years in the State, informed Commerce & Transport Minister Tukuni Sahu in the Odisha Assembly today.
In a written reply to a question by BJD lawmaker from Umerkote Padmini Dian, Sahu said that the government has spent Rs 6.59 crore in the last five years for creating awareness among the people to reduce road accidents.
She said that the government is taking strict enforcement measures for observance of the Motor Vehicle rules.
She said that Electronic enforcement arrangements have been made by the police and Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) on certain sections of the highways.
Police and RTOs are conducting joint special enforcement drives, she added.
