Bhubaneswar: The 25th Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation Week (ME&MC) was flagged off today at IDCOL House, OMC, Bhubaneswar.
Dr Kshirod Chandra Brahma, Director (Project and Planning) OMC, Chairman and Arun Kumar, Regional Controller of Mines, IBM, Convenor of the Organizing Committee graced the flagging-off ceremony.
Pinaki Mallick, Addl. GM (Planning) OMC, Rajesh Das, Dy. Controller of Mines, Bhubaneswar Region, IBM, Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak, Regional Manager, Daitari Iron Ore Mines, OMC were present on the occasion as dignitaries.
As part of the week-long observance, an inspection of mines and various competitions shall be organized to create awareness about mines’ environment and mineral conservation among employees and other stakeholders. This year’s theme is “Safeguarding The Future With Sustainable Mining”.
Altogether 87 mines including Iron, Manganese, Chromite, Bauxite, Dolomite, Limestone, and Graphite Mines are participating in the event among others.
A total of 09 inspection teams have been formed taking officials from various Mining Companies. The inspection teams shall evaluate various mines based on their performance on afforestation, waste dump management, topsoil management, reclamation and rehabilitation, management of subgrade minerals and installation and use of ore beneficiation facilities, monitoring, sustainability, etc.
To mark the occasion, various competitions shall be organized by various mines for school children during the week.
Daitari Iron Ore Mines of Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), the Gold category State PSU of the Government of Odisha, will host the final day celebration of the Silver Jubilee event of Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation Week.
