Bhubaneswar: At least 27 places in Odisha recorded day temperatures (maximum temperatures) above 40°C on Sunday indicating that there is no respite from the intense heatwave prevailing in the state in sight. On the contrary, the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the state will experience heatwave to severe heatwave conditions during the next week and the day temperatures are likely to rise further.
Angul was the hottest place in the state on Sunday at 44.3°C, while Boudh and Baripada were a close second recording 44.1°C and 44°C respectively. The maximum temperatures at the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar were 43.7°C and 43.2°C.
On the other hand, Paradeep recorded 33.4°C, Gopalpur 34.2°C and Puri 34.9°C.
Severe heatwave prevailed in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, and Dhenkanal while heatwave prevailed in the districts of Khordha, Ganjam, Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri, and Boudh.
