Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, an undertrial prisoner accused in a 2023 rape case was found hanging at Bangar Jail in Puri district on Sunday, sparking allegations of foul play by his family.
The deceased has been identified as Dipti Ranjan Swain, a resident of Dahana Kumbharpara in the Sakhigopal area of Puri district. Swain had been arrested last year in connection with the case and was lodged in Puri District Jail.
According to reports, the body was discovered on the jail premises early Sunday. Police reached the spot immediately, seized the body, and sent it for postmortem at Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
Swain’s family members alleged that he was murdered inside the jail and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.
