Bhubaneswar: As per the Head Count Ratio of the Multi-Dimensional Poverty Index (MPI) 2021 prepared by the NITI Aayog 29.35 per cent of the people in Odisha are poor.
This was revealed by Planning and Convergence Minister Rajendra Dholakia in the Odisha Assembly in a written reply to a question by BJP MLA from Jashipura Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia today.
Dholakia informed that while as per the Tendulkar Committee Methodology (based on per capita monthly expenditure) in 2004-05 as many as 221.60 lakh or 57.20 per cent of people in the State were below the poverty line, in 2011-12 survey 138.53 lakh or 32.59 per cent people were below the poverty line.
According to the aforementioned survey, people below the poverty line had dropped by 24.61 per cent which was the highest among the States, the Minister said.
After 2011-12 no survey on the basis of per capita expenditure has been conducted at the governmental level, he clarified.
