Nuapada: Police today claimed to have eliminated 3 to 4 Naxals and injuring over 5 during an exchange of fire between CPI (Maoists) and combined security forces of SOG, DVF and CRPF during an Anti-Naxal Operation in the Sunabeda reserve forest under Komna police limits on the Odisha-Chhatisgarh border.
“We had launched an anti-Naxal operation from January 7. Three SOG teams and one CRPF team had taken part in the operation. On 9th January the SOG team had an exchange of fire with Naxals who were around 50-60 in number. Our team has reported that there were 3-4 casualties on the Naxal side and over five have been injured,” informed Nuapada SP Pratyush Dibakar addressing a presser here today.
Security forces could not recover the bodies of the slain Naxals as IEDs were planted in the area and there was heavy firing which included mortars and LMGs from the other side, Dibakar added.
The Nuapada SP stated that again on January 10 a combined team of SOG, DVF, CRPF was sent for reinforcement to that area.
“During search operation on Wednesday (January 12), hidden armed Naxals opened indiscriminate fire towards the security forces which was retaliated. The Naxals fled the area. After the exchange of fire during search operations combined security forces have recovered 3 mortar cells, solar plates, pieces of Maoist uniforms and literature and several articles used by the rebels,” Dibakar said.
