Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Monday arrested three persons for allegedly running a fake job racket, duping several youngsters on the pretext of providing employment opportunities abroad.
The accused have been identified as Babulahari Gouda, a native of Khandara village in Ganjam district currently residing in Mumbai and Mahesh Ramchandra Lokhande and Kiran Shashikant Ghumre, both from Rayagada district and also living in Mumbai.
According to police , the trio was conducting fraudulent job interviews at a hotel under the jurisdiction of Kharvelnagar Police Station. They were reportedly luring job seekers through advertisements posted on various social media platforms.
“On receiving information from Sunil Kumar Saha, the Protector of Emigrants in Bhubaneswar, police conducted a swift raid at the location. During verification, it was found that the accused were conducting fake interviews and planning to cheat candidates,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena at a press conference.
As per the police, the gang had devised a plan to initially collect Rs 5,000 from each aspirant, followed by a demand of Rs 70,000 after issuing fake offer letters for overseas jobs.
The prompt intervention by police helped foil the fraud at an early stage, preventing what could have been a major financial scam affecting numerous job seekers.
Police have seized several resumes, forged documents, and four mobile phones from the accused.
All three were arrested and produced before the court today.
