Sambalpur: Three people were killed when a speeding car collided with a stationary truck on National Highway 55 near Naksapali under Dhanupali police station on Sunday.
The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed.
According to reports, the truck, loaded with ash, was parked along the highway when the car, traveling from Sambalpur town toward Maneswar at high speed, lost control and rammed into it at around 4 pm. The impact crushed the car, leaving the occupants trapped inside.
Local residents rushed to the scene and alerted the police. With their help, police managed to rescue the victims.
Two bodies were recovered on the spot and sent for postmortem examination, while the third, critically injured, was rushed to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla. The injured person was declared dead upon arrival.
Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
