Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough in the murder case of city-based builder Sasmit Kumar Biswal, the Airfield Police on Friday night detained three persons allegedly involved in the crime.
The detained persons have been identified as Gulu Mohanty (34), Manoj Behera alias Silu (31), and Sukant Behera (41), all residents of Pradhan Sahi under Airfield Police Station limits.
According to police sources, the arrests were made following a complaint lodged by Debabrata Mohanty, the younger brother of the deceased.
The complaint was filed at the Airfield Police Station on Friday. Based on the FIR, police registered a case under Sections 100(3)(1), 100(3)(2), and 16(2) of the BNS Act as Airfield PS Case No. 105, dated April 11, 2025. The FIR names seven persons as accused, of whom three have been taken into custody.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena said, “The victim, Sasmit Kumar Biswal (47), a resident of Bhimpur area, was allegedly involved in a land plotting business in partnership with the accused. Preliminary investigation suggests that a dispute over the land deal led to the fatal altercation.”
The DCP further informed that the post-mortem examination of the deceased was completed on Friday and a forensic team has inspected the crime scene. “Our special investigation team is actively working to trace and apprehend the remaining accused persons. We are hopeful of making further arrests soon,” he added.
The investigation is ongoing and police officials have assured that all responsible persons will be brought to justice.
