Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate of Police has detained three persons in connection with the murder of a youth near Press Chowk here on Saturday night.
According to reports, there are four suspects in the police’ radar for their alleged involvement in the case. The incident was an outcome of a sudden provocation, the police said.
The deceased was identified as Niranjan Parida (Chintu) was a resident of Gadakana area. He had come to a cake shop near Press Chowk with a friend where the duo was attacked by a group.
While both of them sustained grievous injuries, Chintu succumbed at the hospital. His friend is undergoing treatment and the condition is stated to be critical.
“The incident could be triggered due to sudden provocation between the two parties who had a previous enmity. However, the exact motive can be ascertained after thorough probe,” a senior police official said.
Tension prevailed in Gadakana area following the fatal attack last night. Police force had to be deployed to assuage and disperse the local residents who demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
