Bhubaneswar: Police Encounter Criminal in Swift Action After Viral Brutal AssaultBerhampur police injured notorious criminal Jagga Sahu in an encounter early Monday morning.
According to reports, Jagga was the prime accused in the brutal murderous attack on a young man named Mangala Behera in Ambika Nagar the previous night. A video of the merciless assault on Mangala Behera went viral, triggering massive public outrage. Within just five hours of the video surfacing, police tracked down the absconding accused and injured him in an encounter.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid in the Bauri Sukunda area. As soon as the team reached the spot, Jagga hurled a bomb and tried to escape. Police retaliated by opening fire, hitting him in both knees. The injured criminal was immediately rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Police have launched further searches and investigation into the case.
This latest encounter is part of an aggressive crackdown by Berhampur police, with three criminals injured in encounters in just nine days. On May 16, police had injured dreaded criminal Dipuna Nayak in an encounter at Kirtipur. Dipuna had multiple serious cases registered against him across various police stations.
Four days later, on May 20, police injured Mukesh Sahu, the accused in the assault on Umesh Rath at Giri Road. Mukesh was chased and shot at by police in Tamana Ghati under Golanthara police station limits
