Bhubaneswar: An Odia couple and their two-year-old daughter have gone missing amid the devastating floods in Nepal with no trace of their whereabouts so far.
The missing family has been identified as Gunnam Jayakrishna, his wife Gunnam Sai Bindu Kumari and their two-year-old daughter. The trio hails from Sarala Jampali area under Bargada district.
According to family members, Jayakrishna had been working at a hydroelectric project in Nepal and was living there along with his wife and child. Communication with them snapped after the flash floods wreaked havoc in Nepal and all attempts to contact them have failed. The incident has triggered panic among relatives back home in Odisha.
Confirming the development, Bargada District Collector Aditya Goyal said the district administration has already alerted the state government. “We received information that a family from Sarala Jampali is missing in Nepal. We are in constant touch with their family members and have informed the state government. All possible efforts are being made to ensure their safe rescue and return. I hope and pray that normalcy is restored in Nepal at the earliest.”
This is the second such case involving Odias in the Nepal floods. Earlier on Wednesday, two tourists from Khordha district were reported missing after flash floods hit parts of Nepal.
With the latest addition, at least five persons from Odisha are now reported missing in the Nepal disaster.
