Bhubaneswar: Three persons were killed and two others critically injured in a road accident near a roadside dhaba close to Durgi village under the jurisdiction of Bissamcuttack police station in Rayagada district late on Monday night.
The deceased have been identified as Akash Mandangi of Sundidhamuni panchayat under Ramanaguda block and Birisingh Hikka of Burujuguda village under Kolnara block in the district. The identity of the third deceased is yet to be ascertained.
According to reports, the accident occurred after two motorcycles collided head-on, leaving the riders and pillion passengers severely injured. Locals immediately rushed to the spot and informed the police. However, two persons had died on the spot.
The three injured victims were rushed to Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. One of them succumbed to injuries on the way, taking the death toll to three. The remaining two injured persons are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
On receiving information, police reached the spot and began an investigation into the incident.
