Nayagarh: In a tragic incident, three students of a private tutorial were killed after a rice-laden truck hit a passenger bus in which they were traveling on National Highway-57 near Shalabhanga forest under Banigochha police station in Nayagarh district late Friday night.
The students were on their way to western Odisha for a picnic.
The tragic incident took place when the passenger bus carrying students of a tutorial in Daspalla was heading towards West Odisha from Daspalla and it collided with a rice-laden truck coming from the opposite direction.
The accident took place in the late night. Many passengers in the bus were seriously injured. Immediately, Dasapalla police, Banigochha police, fire services unit arrived at the scene and with the help of local residents, they rescued the seriously injured passengers and sent them to Daspalla Community Health Centre.
The doctors declared two students dead while another critically injured succumbed on the way to Nayagarh district headquarters hospital.
However, local MLA Ramesh Chandra Behera, Nayagarh SDPO Snehasis Sahu, Nayagarh SP rushed to the hospital and inquired about the health condition of other students.
Police seized the bodies for post-mortem and detained the driver and helper of the truck.
