3 Women Killed In Landslide At A Hill In Koraput

Koraput: Three young women were killed in a landslide while they were extracting morrum from Matikhala Morrum hill near Kolab dam under Koraput Sadar police limits in Koraput district on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Sanu Jani (18), Champa Badnaik (18), and Purni Badnaik (18) of Salmanguda village in Badakerenga panchayat.

According to reports, the accident occurred while these women were engaged in the illegal extraction of morrum from the Matikhala Morrum hill. While they were digging, a portion of the hill caved in on them.

The women remained trapped under the debris. On being informed, Koraput Sadar police officials rushed to the spot to rescue the women trapped under the debris.

While two were killed on the spot, the other injured woman who was rushed to the district headquarters hospital here died on the way.
