Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown on illegal liquor transportation, Ramanaguda police on Monday arrested two persons and seized 356 litres of foreign liquor in Rayagada district.
The arrested persons have been identified as Anuj Kumar Yadav of Bihar and Ganesh Himirika of Debadala village under Chandili police station.
According to reports, acting on a tip-off, Ramanaguda police were patrolling the area when they spotted a suspicious vehicle. Upon inspection, a large quantity of foreign liquor of various brands was recovered.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment was being smuggled from Rayagada district to Gajapati district.
Both accused were taken into custody and produced before the court on Monday.
Police have stated that further investigation is underway to identify the source and other possible accomplices.
