Deogarh: A woman and three kids have taken ill after accidentally consuming urea at Jhara Sahi of Bamparda village in Barkote block of Deogarh district on Friday.
All the four have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital here and are from one family.
According to reports, Tapoi, Kunta, and Kaikeyi, the three married daughters of Santosh Behera of Jhara Sahi had come home with their children–one-year-old girl Arohi, five-year-old son Pinku, and one year and three months old girl Susama respectively to help their father in farming.
Tapoi, Kunta and Kaikeyi leaving their children in the care of their mother Jamuna had gone to the field to help her father in farming.
Granny Jamuna served chuda (flattened rice) and mudhi (puffed rice) to the children to eat.
Eldest among Jamuna’s grandchildren, the five-year-old Pinku believing the urea kept for use as fertilizer to be sugar added a little of it to the chuda they were partaking.
After adding urea, the chuda tasted bitter. Pinku told about it to his granny Jamuna who also tasted the chuda and found it to be tasting bitter.
After a lapse of time, a wave of nausea engulfed them and they all started vomiting.
Santosh after returning home from his field and hearing about all that had happened came to know that they have consumed urea kept for use as fertilizer.
He immediately rushed them to the Community Health Centre at Barkote. From Barkote CHC they were shifted to the district headquarters hospital here.
