Rairangpur: A minor boy has been detained in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a four-year-old girl in a tribal village under Jamda police station limits in Mayurbhanj district, police said.
The incident reportedly occurred two days ago when the girl was playing near her house. The accused, a minor from the same village and reportedly a close relative of the child, allegedly lured her away and sexually assaulted her.
The girl was initially taken to Rairangpur Sub Divisional Hospital after her condition deteriorated. She was later shifted to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital in Baripada as her condition worsened.
Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Birendra Senapati said the child’s health condition was now stable.
A case has been registered at Jamda police station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The detained minor is being interrogated, the SDPO said.
The family had not initially lodged a complaint with the police, according to reports. Following the filing of a complaint, police initiated action in the case.
