Bhubaneswar: As many as 40 passengers sustained injuries after a bus veered off a bridge on National Highway 57 in Boudh district in the wee hours of Saturday. The bus was en route to Malkangiri from Bhubaneswar when the mishap took place.
Three injured passengers among 40 have been shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Burla as their condition worsened.
According to sources, the bus fell off the Sunakhai bridge, 20 feet below, after losing balance.
Upon being informed, the fire department and police rushed to the spot. All the injured were rescued and admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Boudh. Out of the 40 passengers injured, 17 are critically injured and three have been shifted to Burla, said sources.
Meanwhile, some passengers have attributed the mishap to the recklessness of drunken driver and helper. Police have detained two persons in this connection and began a probe into the matter.
