Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasised the importance of quality education and reducing dropout rates in Odisha’s education system during the state-level Teachers’ Day celebrations at Lok Seva Bhavan.

Paying tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Majhi highlighted the former President’s role as an ideal teacher and statesman.

The Chief Minister noted that the education system faces two major challenges: reducing dropout rates and providing quality education to all. To address these issues, the government has extended the Mid-Day Meal Scheme up to Class X, providing nutritious food to students. The Madho Singh Handicraft Scheme is also assisting children from the Scheduled Castes.

A new education policy has been implemented to promote creativity and self-reliance among students. The Skilful Odisha programme enhances language skills in children through stories, songs, and educational activities. Additionally, the ‘Padhiba, Gadhiba Odisha’ programme aims to develop reading and comprehension skills by transforming schools into attractive reading spaces.

The Godavarish Mishra Adarsh Pratavadhyay Vidyalaya Yojana has been launched to establish one Adarsh Vidyalaya in each panchayat, ensuring quality education at the primary level. In the first phase, 835 schools will be built at a cost of Rs 5 to 7 crore. The government also plans to fill 45,000 teacher posts at the primary level in three years.

CM Majhi expressed his vision for a prosperous Odisha by 2036, emphasising the importance of nurturing the talents of current students. He urged teachers to guide children and help them become good human beings, ensuring the state’s progress.
