Bhubaneswar: Badagada police under Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) on Tuesday arrested five persons including a juvenile in connection with the vandalism at Gadhiakhala basti in the BJB Nagar area of the city last Sunday evening.
Police seized two billhooks, one cricket stump, one scooter and one empty bullet cartridge.
The accused persons have been identified as Sagar Jena (26) of Gadhiakhala Basti, T Biju (27) of Bapuji Nagar, Sumanta Pradhan alias Goura (20) of Mainsikhala Basti, Guru Kanhar alias Lipu (20) of Mainsikhala basti and one minor.
According to an official press release, as per a complaint lodged by one Balaram Behera of Gadhiakhala, the accused persons on late Sunday at about 9.30 PM a group of bike-borne anti-socials armed with swords and billhooks came to the basti. They allegedly hurled slang, damaged several vehicles and fired three rounds to terrorize the residents.
Badagada police registered a case in this connection and started its investigation into the matter.
Taking up the matter seriously and showing zero tolerance towards hooliganism, the Commissionerate Police arrested five persons including a juvenile in the case and seized the weapons and other materials in committing the offence.
The accused have been booked under sections 324 (4), 351(3), 296, 308(5), 109, 3(5) BNS read with sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
