Bhubaneswar: At least five persons were killed and several others injured in a road accident on National Highway 53 near Barada Square in Jajpur district on Monday.
As per reports, the mishap occurred when a Bolero vehicle, carrying passengers returning from a wedding ceremony in the Badachana area, rammed into a stationary truck parked on the roadside. The impact was so severe that the passengers in the Bolero were crushed inside the vehicle.
Local present at the accident site immediately alerted the police and fire services. Upon being informed, police and firefighting officials rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue operation.
Ten passengers were pulled out from the mangled vehicle. Out of the rescued passengers, five succumbed to their injuries. The remaining injured persons, including some in critical condition, were rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Two children are reported to be safe.
Senior police officials, including the Jajpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Badachana police, and Jenapur police, reached the spot and have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
