Jajpur: Kalinga Nagar police have detained five youths for allegedly attempting to rape a minor girl.
According to reports, while a minor boy and his minor sister were walking down to Tata Mines in Kaliapani area of Sukinda in Jajpur district on Sunday evening, near Jhumphan five youths asked the brother-sister duo to take shelter for the night at the local school.
Later these youths upon reaching school at night thrashed the minor boy and attempted to rape his sister. To save herself from the clutches of these youths, the minor girl jumped from the roof of the school building while her brother raised an alarm following which villagers rushed to the spot and informed the police.
Kalinga Nagar police on reaching the spot captured the five youths. They have been detained at the police station and their interrogation is underway.
The injured minor girl has been admitted at the local Tata Medica Hospital. The minor boy and his sister are natives of Anandpur area of Keonjhar district and were on their way to their sister’s house in Kaliapani when the incident took place.
