Bhubaneswar: A total of 50 government officials in Odisha have been arrested by the Vigilance Department for accumulating assets disproportionate to their known sources of income over the past 8 months, as announced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in the State Assembly.
In response to a question raised by MLA Pabitra Saunta, CM Majhi provided a written statement revealing that the Vigilance Department took action against the 50 officials for accumulating wealth that could not be explained by their official income.
As part of this crackdown, assets worth Rs 117 crore have been seized. Among the items confiscated were gold ornaments, houses, plots, vehicles, and bank deposits valued at over Rs 4 crore from 11 officials.
During this period, 51 people have been named in FIRs. Of these, 13 have been convicted, while 9 cases ended in acquittals.
