Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police have questioned around 50 people in connection with the murder of BJP leader and senior lawyer Pitabas Panda. Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek informed that 5-6 suspects are being interrogated, and the investigation is ongoing.
The police have collected CCTV footage that has provided valuable clues about Panda’s movements on the day of the incident. The footage has helped identify some individuals who were present on the road where the murder took place, and they are being questioned.
The police have also seized two expensive cars and are investigating the theft of a vehicle allegedly used in the crime. Some youths from Digpahandi and Hinjili areas are being interrogated, and inquiries are being conducted at toll gates.
The post-mortem report is awaited, and the police are hopeful of solving the murder mystery soon. Panda’s murder has sparked widespread concern, with many questioning the law and order situation in the state.
Panda was shot dead by unidentified assailants near his residence in Berhampur late on Monday night.
The incident occurred in the city’s Brahma Nagar area and has triggered widespread shock across the state’s political and legal circles.
Panda was attacked close to his home at around 10 p.m. He sustained bullet injuries and was immediately rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
