Bhubaneswar: Construction of as many as 51 bridges have been completed in Khordha district under the Biju Setu Yojana (BSY) at an expenditure of ₹ 21958 lakh till date. This apart, construction of 14 bridges is underway in the district under BSY.
Construction of these bridges have benefitted 6,12,563 people residing in 588 villages and has strengthened their economic and social standing, said an official press release.
These bridges have revolutionized communication and transportation in the areas. Apart from reducing distances from one place to another it has saved the people from incurring unnecessary expenditure.
That apart, from making available education, health, drinking water, electricity, agriculture production, trade, livelihood, etc. and other basic facilities, marked improvement has been observed in the livelihood patterns of people belonging to the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe communities.
BSY is a ground breaking initiative in the field of socio-economic development of rural people.
Recently, the high bridge over the Kuakhai river connecting from Jinkiridihi under Bhubaneswar block to Pratapnagari under Cuttack Sadar has been inaugurated on November 10, 2022.
This 336.93-metre-long bridge has 11 spans each measuring 30.63 meters. It has been built at a cost of ₹ 1749.94 lakh. As many as 40,000 people residing in nine villages have benefited by the construction of this bridge.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Odisha government has implemented BSY to provide round the year connectivity in rural areas. The state government had launched BSY in 2011 for connecting cut-off areas with the mainland.
