Nabarangpur: Forest department officials today arrested two wildlife smugglers from Sarguli village under Raighar block in Nabarangpur district and seized 52 turtles from their possession.
The accused persons have been identified as Rohidas Banik (55) and Parmanand Bauli (42) of Kumuli village under Raighar block.
Forest department officials have also seized one motorcycle, a weighing machine and two mobile phones from their possession.
“Acting on a tip-off we conducted a raid at Sarguli village and arrested two persons Rohidas Banik and Parmanand Bauli and seized 52 turtles from their possession. We have also seized a motorcycle from them,” informed Purna Chandra Nayak, Forest Range Officer, Umerkote.
Nayak added that the seized turtles would be released on instructions from the DFO.
The accused Banik and Bauli have been forwarded to court following their arrest.
