Bhubaneswar: Even as the day temperatures (maximum temperatures) have been rising gradually across Odisha, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar issued a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms in 11 districts on Friday.
Thunderstorms and rain with wind speeds of 30-40 km per hour are forecast today in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts. Yellow warning of thunderstorms with lightning has been issued for one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts on May 18.
At the same time, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in several of Odisha and the weather conditions are likely to become intense from May 19. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for heatwave conditions in Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Angul districts.
Heatwave conditions will continue to prevail at one or two places in Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, and Sundargarh districts on May 20. In addition, the weather office has issued a warning for thunderstorms with lightning at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nabarangpur districts.
There will be a gradual rise in the day temperature by 2°C-4°C at many places in the state during the next 3-5 days. Monsoon is expected to hit Kerala coast on May 31, the weather office said.
