59,437 People Duped By Online Trading Scams In Five Years: Odisha CM

Bhubaneswar: As many as 59,437 people have fallen prey to online trading scams in the last five years, informed Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in the state Assembly on Monday.

Chief Minister’s reply came in response to queries raised by Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati.

As per the written statement issued by the Chief Minister, 18 persons in 2019, 28 persons in 2020, 22 persons in 2021 and 105 persons in 2022 have fallen victim to online trading scams.

However,  2023 and 2024 witnessed an unexpected surge in such cases. The state has registered 18, 994 such cases in 2023. Importantly,  2024 registered an all-time high in such cases with 40,270 people being duped in online trading in the last ten months.
