Basta (Balasore): In a shocking and distressing incident, a 65-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a youth in Gahirabandh village under Raibania police limits in Balasore district on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Niharsan Bihari, has been arrested by the Raibania police.
According to reports, the victim was on her way to a relative’s house when she was waylaid by the accused near the panchayat office.
The youth allegedly dragged her behind the office building and committed the crime. Fellow villagers later rescued the woman and rushed her to the Hatigarh Community Health Centre, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
The victim’s son filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Raibania police station, prompting immediate action by the authorities.
The police swiftly apprehended the accused, Niharsan Bihari, who is now in custody. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
This heinous crime has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns about the safety of women, particularly the elderly, in the region.
