Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday hoisted the Tricolour at the Exhibition Ground in Bhubaneswar on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day on Tuesday and took the salute of the five regiments, including a regiment from Chhattisgarh Police.
In his address to the people on the occasion, the Chief Minister paid glowing tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, and several illustrious freedom fighters from Odisha. He reminded people of the contributions of these great freedom fighters saying that their contributions to the freedom struggle have allowed us to live in a free country.
Talking about the progress made by Odisha during recent years, the Chief Minister said, “Odisha has made rapid progress in various fields, especially education, farming, healthcare, infrastructure and disaster management. The economy of the state also grew by leaps and bounds and we have been able to eradicate poverty to a great extent.”
The Chief Minister called on everyone to contribute to the progress and development of Odisha and make it the best state in the country.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Greetings to all on #IndependenceDay. Homage to our great freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom.”
“Let’s resolve to make a developed India by recalling the dedications and sacrifices of great persons on this auspicious occasion,” he added.
Meanwhile, tight security arrangements have been made in the capital on the occasion of Independence Day. Fifteen platoon forces and 100 officers are in charge of security. A dog squad, bomb disposal team, and dog-catcher team have been deployed to ensure foolproof security.
A five-tier security system has been adopted for the ceremony. Additional DCP, ACP, Inspector, and Sub-Inspector will manage the security system under the direct supervision of the DCP. Extensive closures have been put in place to manage traffic. In addition, a bomb disposal team, a snake shooter, plainclothes police personnel, quick response team were present. In view of security, the exhibition ground and all connecting roads were been sealed.
